A Greenery Selection Guide!

It might be challenging to decide which greenery and filler to include in your bouquets. The following advice should put you at ease whether you are new to producing sola wood flowers or an experienced crafter who has preferred go-to techniques but wants to be able to try out more variations!

Although the sola wood flowers take center stage, the foliage you employ has a significant supporting role and needs to be carefully considered, just like the colors you select to dye your flowers.

There are five distinct categories of filler/greenery below. When composing a piece, I suggest employing at least three of them to make your arrangements stand out. Keep in mind that specific filler and greenery can fit into more than one category!

Flat Leafy Greenery

More significantly, flatter leaves make up this kind of greenery, which is ideal for filling vast spaces. It can be used for wreaths, cascading or flat-back bouquets, arch swag pieces, and signage. Because it is flat, you can also simply combine the leaves among the different types and styles of greenery you use. You may use it as a base greenery and build the rest of your arrangement on top of it or in front of it.

  • Spear palms are a type of palm that can also be used as color-contrasting foliage.
  • Medium-Grade Magnolia Leaves Mixed Bundle with Lamb's Ears and Faux-Seeded Eucalyptus(You can use the seeds from this foliage to complete the Pop of Colors Filler category!)

Voluminous Greens

This group of greens includes dense foliage that can occupy a large amount of space. The leaves are ideal for filling wide gaps on wreaths, adding mass to bouquets, and filling up containers for centerpieces. They are usually medium to large. It will probably be the foliage style you employ most for larger pieces because it's usually the bulkiest greenery you're working with on an arrangement.

Color Contrast Foliage

This kind of foliage is employed to infuse your composition with a striking hue. Consider using lighter-colored vegetation to slightly brighten up a dark and melancholy color scheme. Bring in a darker eucalyptus if sage greens are the color scheme. Instead, if you're feeling very adventurous, you may add some non-green leaves, like Fall Leaves - Burgundy. The purpose of color contrast foliage, which is more commonly used in seasonal arrangements or to incorporate additional colors from the palette when paired with cream flowers, is to give the composition more depth and mystery.

  • Olive Branch: (May be utilized as a Texture Green as well)
  • Smilax (Also Usable as a Green Texture)

Texture Greens

These are a quick and simple way to add texture to your arrangements, which is the aim of utilizing several greenery/fillers! Generally speaking, the leaves on this kind of vegetation are smaller and have unique shapes. To make sure they stand out in your bouquet, centerpiece, or other arrangement, add them at the very end of creating your foliage foundation or even after you have added your flowers.

Pop of Color Fillers

These filler varieties add the last bit of color that makes an arrangement truly pop! These are usually added very last when assembling your wedding or home décor components because a few tiny sprigs may go a long way.
